PIONEER WOMAN DEAD

--- Mrs. Mary M. Weatherly, Aged 88, Dies Near Bangor ---

Mrs. Mary M. Weatherly, better known as “Aunt Polly” in Bangor and Liscomb, where she had lived for so many years, died at the home of her son, Sherman Weatherly, near Bangor, at 7 this morning. Death was due to the effects of an injury, aggravated by a recent recurrent attack of gall stones. Mrs. Weatherly, whose home has been in Liscomb, went a month ago to visit at her son’s home. Three weeks ago she fell and fractured her right hip. The injury never healed and an attack of a chronic gall stone trouble so weakened her that the end was hastened. Mrs. Weatherly had been subject to similar attacks for two years. Mrs. Weatherly was one of the real pioneer women of the county, where she had lived for more than sixty-five years. Since 1854 she had been a resident of Marietta and Bangor townships and Liscomb successively. Mrs. Weatherly’s maiden name was Mary M. Fulk. She was born in Oliver county, Indiana, Dec. 13, 1829, and there was married to John C. Weatherly in 1850. In 1854 Mr. and Mrs. Weatherly came to Iowa and settled in Marietta township. Later they moved to a farm near Bangor, where they lived until they moved to Liscomb in 1904. Mr. Weatherly died there Sept. 23, 1906. Mr. and Mrs. Weatherly were the parents of nine children, of whom six are living. A son William and a daughter Sarah died when they were young, and another daughter, Mrs. Eliza J. Mishler, died Dec. 27, 1917. The surviving children are James, Des Moines; Sherman, Bangor; Byron, Steamboat Rock; John J., of Holland Minn.; Mrs. J. C. Collingwood, Ottumwa; and Mrs. Clella Dickover, Clemons.
