MIDGET BABE DIES

Tiny Boy, Weighing Three Pounds, Unequal to Life Struggle

The birth Saturday morning of a tiny boy to Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Harmon, living on the M. A. Hauser farm, five miles south of Liscomb, was followed by the infant’s death at 6 o’clock Saturday evening. The little one weighed only three pounds, having been born prematurely, at six months. Its little head would go into a teacup with ease, and the body was not quite twelve inches long. A home made incubator was arranged immediately, and everything possible was done to save the little one’s life. With its little body swathed in cotton saturated with olive oil, the babe was placed in a nest of pillows, with the temperature kept uniformly at between 93 and 96 degrees by means of hot water bottles and fruit jars filled with hot water. Nourishment was given every four hours. The little one proved unequal to the struggle, however, and passed away about twelve hours after birth. Mrs. Harmon is getting along nicely, and no ill effects from the premature birth of her babe are anticipated. This was the couple’s first-born. Mrs. Harmon was formerly Miss Flossy Denbow. She is a daughter of Mrs. Marilda Denbow, now of Parker, S. D., and of the late Sylvester Denbow. Services for the infant were held at the Bethel cemetery by Rev. George Biersborn, of Liscomb, Sunday afternoon, and interment followed in the Bethel cemetery.
