John F. Miller, a carpenter living at 604 East Church street, died at 10:40 Sunday night at the home of his brother-in-law, Daniel Bueghly, four and one-half miles west of Conrad, in Felix township, Grundy county. Mr. Miller had been at his brother-in-law’s home for the past month following his return from Cedar Rapids where he had been treated for five weeks. Mr. Miller’s death was due to cancer of the stomach, following an illness dating since April. Mr. Miller was born on a farm two miles south of Liscomb, on Nov. 22, 1864. He was a son of Charles Miller, who now makes his home in this city and who was one of the early residents of Liscomb township. Mr. Miller grew to manhood in the Liscomb neighborhood, and on Feb 5, 1885, took as his wife Miss Helena Hauser, a daughter of the late Jacob Hauser, of Iowa township, and a sister of Mathias Hauser, of Iowa township. Mr. and Mrs. Miller lived in Hardin, Crawford and Marshall counties, and before coming to this city, two years ago Oct. 1 next, lived at Albion for eighteen months, where Mr. and Mrs. Hauser were engaged in the hotel business. Aside from his wife, Mr. Miller is survived by three sons. The eldest, Clarence, is a motorman on the street railway here, and the youngest son, Rolland, is a conductor. The middle son, Arthur J. Miller, works in the country. There also survives, aside from the aged father, one brother and two sisters, and a half brother and sister. The brother is Marion Miller, of Liscomb, and the sisters, Mrs. Lona Hart, of this city, and Mrs. Ruth Price, of St. Anthony. The half-brother is James Miller, of Bangor township and the half-sister Mrs. Mary Weatherly, of Liscomb. The funeral will be held from the Bethel Grove Christian church at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, and interment will follow in the Bethel Grove cemetery. It is expected that Rev. Charles Haughham, of Brooklyn, an old friend of the family, will have charge of the service.
