John May, well known in Gilman, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Wiseman, July 14, of infirmities due to old age. Mr. May was born in County Antrim, Ireland, Oct. 31, 1821, and came to this country and settled in Jasper county, Sept. 1, 1890. Later he made his home with his daughters, Mrs. Wiseman, Mrs. Todd and Mrs. Barr. He had enjoyed good health until about five years ago, but since then he has been gradually failing. Mr. May was married in 1844 to Miss Betty Marshall, who died about four years ago. He was a member of the Episcopal church and was generally esteemed.
