JOHN ARNEY DEAD

One of the Oldest Residents of Iowa Township Passes Away

John Arney, one of the best known and oldest residents of Iowa township, died at his home, two and one-half miles northwest of Albion, Monday night at 6:40 o’clock. His death was due to cancer of the stomach, with which he had been a sufferer for several months. During recent weeks his friends have known that the coming of the end was but a matter of time, as he has been gradually growing weaker and weaker. John Arney was 75 years of age, and for fifty-two years had been a resident of Iowa township. He was born in Indiana in 1828, and moved to Marshall county, Oct. 21, 1854, Two years before he married Miss Huldah A. Hauser of Owen county, Indiana, who survives him. Besides the wife, he leaves two sons, G. W. Arney, of Parker, S. D., and A. L. Arney, of Skyeston, N. D., and four daughters. The latter are Mrs. J. L. Ralls, of this city; Mrs. W. D. Zeller, Mrs. H. T. Denbow, and Mrs. J. C. Walker, of Parker, S. D. The funeral was held this morning at 11 o’clock at the Bethel Grove church, and was largely attended by the old settlers of Albion and vicinity and the many friends of the family. Rev. W. H. Scott, of this city, officiated, and the interment was in the church burying ground.
