AN OLD SETTLER’S DEATH

Larkin Price, Resident of Marshall County Since 1853, Dies Near Liscomb

Larkin Price, for forty-nine years a resident of Marshall county, died Tuesday afternoon at 3:35 o’clock at his home, where he lived for thirty-nine years, three miles southwest of Liscomb. Mr. Price has been ill several months with Bright’s disease and other organic complications, resulting from the infirmities of old age. The death at this particular time was extraordinarily sad to the family, members of which had only returned home from the funeral of the deceased’s grandson, the late Fireman Frank Patterson, of the Central, who was killed in the wreck near Gifford Saturday night. Mr. Price was born in Franklin county, Virginia, in 1819, having celebrated his 83d anniversary on Feb. 10. Prior to coming north he lived in Mississippi, and upon emigrating, as it was then called, lived in Indiana, and Mercer county, Illinois, where he located in 1850. For a time he also lived in Jo Daviess county, Ill., and in the late ‘40s made the overland trip to California, where he remained three years. He came to Marshall county Nov. 20, 1853, and purchased a farm of 221 acres in the Old Bethel neighborhood, which has been his homestead since. He was married in 1844 at North Henderson, Ill., to Miss Sarah A. Dawson, who survives him at the age of 74 years. Besides his wife Mr. Price leaves seven children – four daughters and three sons. The daughters are Mrs. T. W. Patton, of Liscomb; Mrs. A. E. Thurber, residing one mile east of Liscomb; Miss Ella Price, who lives at home, and Mrs. J. H. Arney, of this city. Of the sons the youngest, Roy Price, lives on the home place. The eldest, Larkin Price, Jr., lives in Abilene, Tex., and William Price resides in Montana. Owing to Mr. Price’s enfeebled condition he was not appraised of the sad death of his grandson, Frank Patton. The funeral will be held from the Old Bethel Christian church Thursday afternoon at 1 o’clock, Rev. Joel Myers, of LeGrand, officiating. Interment will be at the Bethel cemetery.
