Mrs. P. F. Arney Dies At Home Here

Mrs. P. F. Arney, prominent resident of this city, died at her home, 608 West Main street at 3 p.m. Thursday. She had been an invalid for the past 20 years. Mrs. Arney was born Cora Louise Dill, eldest child of Edwin and Lucy Dill, at North Adams, Mass. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. At the age of 5 years she came with her parents to Iowa, settling in Iowa county. She was graduated from Iowa State Teachers college and then taught in the Albion school until her marriage to P. F. Arney, Sept. 9, 1903. Mr. and Mrs. Arney moved to their present home in 1904. She was a member of the First Methodist church, first president of the Y. W. board, past president of the P. E. O. and superintendent of the Junior league. Mrs. Arney had been very active in musical circles and in the church, having founded the Junior Church league and had graduated one bible class in the church and one in the Y. W. Surviving are Mr. Arney; four step-children, Mrs. Archer Meyering of Edmonds, Wash., Mrs. John A Speyer of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Howard Gravatt and Max Arney of Marshalltown; 16 step-grandchildren, 4 great step-grandchildren; five nieces and two nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Saturday afternoon at the First Methodist church in charge of the pastor, Dr. F. F. Travis. Burial will be in Riverside. The casket will remain closed at the church, it was announced. The Estel funeral home will be open to friends until 1 p.m. Saturday.
