Lowell Bixby Dead At 76

LISCOMB --- (Special) --- Word was received in Marshalltown Tuesday evening of the death of Lowell L. Bixby, 76, widely known Liscomb and Marshalltown resident, in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Mr. Bixby was cashier of the bank in Liscomb for many years and also operated an insurance business at Liscomb. Arrangements are pending at the Estel-Perrin Funeral Home. Among the survivors are two children, Loren Bixby of Liscomb and Mrs. Dean Yantis of Marshalltown.

Lowell Bixby Services Set For Saturday

Services for Lowell L. Bixby, 76, widely known Liscomb resident who died in Excelsior Springs, Mo., Tuesday where he had been spending the winter, will be from the Liscomb Church of Christ at 2 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Gordon Sorenson, pastor, in charge. Burial will be in the Liscomb cemetery. Friends may call at the Estel-Perrin Funeral Home until 9:30 a.m. Saturday. BORN MAY 24, 1886, at Liscomb, he was the son of early residents of that area, Lorenzo L. and Thursa Hauser Bixby. He received his education in the schools of that community. He later attended Drake University in Des Moines. On Oct. 3, 1912 he was married in Grundy County to Hazel D. Barber and they made their home in the Liscomb, Marshalltown and Conrad communities. For many years Mr. Bixby was cashier of the Liscomb Savings Bank, retiring about 10 years ago. He also served as treasurer of the Iowa Valley Mutual Insurance Co. for several years. MR. BIXBY was a member of the Liscomb Church of Christ, Odd Fellows Lodge No. 242, and the Masonic Lodge of Liscomb. Preceding him in death were his wife in 1957, and a brother, Dr. R. L. Bixby, formerly of Union. Surviving are one son and a daughter, Loren of Liscomb and Mrs. Dean Yantis of Marshalltown. Also surviving are two grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. George Biersborn, Leesburg, Fla.
