Bixby

Lyman Lorenzo Bixby, a well-known resident of Liscomb, whose sudden illness with malignant erysipelas was announced in these columns a few days ago, died at 9 o'click Wednesday night. His illness has only been of a few days' duration, but was very serious from the start. Mr. Bixby was born in Steuben county, New York, Sept. 6, 1828. His parents moved to Ohio when he was a lad, and later to Illinois. When a young man of 21 Mr. Bixby left Illinois for the California gold fields, the excitement of the big findings in wealth in the western country then being at its height. After a two years' stay in California he returned to Illinois, and was married to Ellen Mahew, in 1852. After this marriage he moved to this county, settling in Liscomb. His first wife having died he was again married on Sept. 10, 1880, to Miss Theresa Hauser, who survives him. Mr. Bixby was a respected citizen of Liscomb and was honored at different times by the townsmen, having served a number of terms as both school director and member of the town council. Besides his wife the deceased is survived by six children -- Ozed, Dan and James Bixby, of Round Lake, Minn., and Ida, Lowell and Melvin, of Liscomb. The funeral will be held from the family home Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Hanna, pastor of the Christian church.
