Margarett L. “Peg” Borton, 92, of Conrad, died Monday, February 16, 2009, at Oakview Nursing Home. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 21, 2009, at Beaman United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to the Iowa Department for the Blind, 524 Fourth Street, Des Moines, IA 50309. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home has been caring for Peg and her family. Ph 641-844-1234. Margarett LaRue Cross was born on February 12, 1917, in Chelsea, Iowa. She was the daughter of Miron and Lola (Hall) Cross. She graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1935. On February 9, 1938, Peg married Carl "Johnny" Borton in Marshall County. They farmed near Radcliffe until 1948, when they moved to their farm in Beaman. Peg and Johnny worked as partners in their business. She was proud to be a farm wife. Carl died in August of 1998, having had celebrated 60 years of marriage to Peg in February of 1998. Peg was a member of Beaman United Methodist Church, Rebekah Lodge, and the Ladies AMVET Auxilliary. She was a Girl Scout Leader and an active member of the Beaman community and her neighborhood. She had an extensive collection of mustard pots. Peg enjoyed a tea party with her friends with a family party later in the evening at Oakview on her 92nd birthday on February 12th. Peg is survived by her daughters, Carla King of Grover Beach, California, and Sandra Stoehr of Conrad, formerly of Oceano, California; her grandchildren, Brad (Sylvie) King of Las Vegas, Nevada, Kaily Stoehr of Conrad, Shelly Stoehr of Beaman, and Clay Stoehr of Liscomb; her 2 great-grandchildren, Jacquelyne King of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Johnithan Ward of Conrad; her brother, Gerald Cross, of Boise, Idaho; her former sons-in-law, Victor King of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Jeff Stoehr; and several nieces and nephews. In death, she has rejoined her husband, Carl; her brother, Dale Cross, and her sister, Gretchen Lawrence.
