H. Ray Adkins, 76

H. Ray Adkins, 76, of the Iowa veterans Home, died Sunday, November 17 there.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Mauldin officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens with flag presentation by the American Legion. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Thursday, and the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

A Memorial fund is being established.

He was born on May 10, 1921 in Marshalltown to James T. & Clara J. Ralls Adkins. He was reared and educated in Marshalltown and Dunbar. He graduated from Dunbar High School. In 1938 he joined Company "H" of the National Guard and in 1941 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served until 1945. After returning from the service, he attended the Central Iowa Business College.

He married Martha Hillman on May 9, 1948 in Dana. He was employed by Strand Bakery, Mead Dairy, Sunshine Biscuit Co. and the Iowa Veterans Home.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a former member of the Frank Lewis Glick Post 46 of the American Legion.

Survivors include 2 daughters, Marcia (Mrs. Gary) Andrews of Layton, Utah, and Denise Adkins of Marshalltown; 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, James A. Adkins of Eldon, Missouri and Tom Adkins of Marshalltown; 3 sisters, Mary (Mrs. Wayne) Elsberry of Marshalltown, Jane (Mrs. Ted) Holthusen of Texas City, Texas and Joan (Mrs. Albert) Wall of Marshalltown.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Jay, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
