Richard McMahon Dies Friday at 80

Richard L. McMahon, 80, of 918 Jackson St., died at Marshalltown Area Community Hospital afternoon after being a patient since Tuesday.
Born June 13, 1902, near Baxter, he was the son of Charles and Lena Petermeier McMahon. He received his education in the Van Cleve schools.
In 1923 he was married to Nellie Mae Wisgerof in Marshall County. They always made their home in Marshalltown, where he was a postal carrier for 30 years before retiring in 1962. He was a member of the National Letter Carriers Association.
Preceding him in death were his wife in 1968, two brothers and a sister.
Surviving are threes sons and one daughter, Marian (Mrs. Vernon) Wilkening of State Center; Cecil McMahon of Seattle, Wash.; Dean of Englewood, Colo.; Richard L. of Marshalltown; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers and two sisters, Mrs. Delores Buschbom of Marshalltown; Mildred (Mrs. Ted) Henning of Colfax; Dan McMahon of Lake Elsinore, Calif.; and Kenneth McMahon of Dallas, Texas, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday from the chapel of the Estel Perrin Funeral Home with the Rev. O. K. Anderson of Elim Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Sunday. A memorial fund has been established.
