Mrs. Pothast Dead At 89; Rites Monday

Melbourne Special Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Van Cleve United Church of Christ for Mrs. Anna Pothast, 89, a lifelong resident of Marshall County.
The Rev. Harley C. Gelhaus of Marshalltown will be in charge.
Mrs. Pothast died Friday afternoon at Evangelical Hospital in Marshalltown.
She was born July 10, 1879 in LaMoille, a daughter of Henry and Minnie Thomas Goecke, and was reared in that community. On Dec. 20, 1903, she married Frederick William Pothast in LaMoille and for many years made their home in Van Cleve and Melbourne area. She was a member of the Van Cleve Church.
Surviving are five children. They are Mrs. Ruth Walkup of State Center, Mrs. Ethel Nielsen of Eagle Butte, S. D., and August, Harold and Ronald of Melbourne. There are 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Also surviving are four brothers, Fred, Ernest, Albert and Frank Geocke, all of Marshalltown. She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and a sister.
Friends may call at the Ryan Davis Funeral Home. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.
