Frances Anne (Tate) Hogancamp, 82, entered into eternal life Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames with her family by her side. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 10 at the First United Methodist Church in Conrad with Pastor Jennifer Daniel officiating. Burial will follow at the Iowa River Church of the Brethren Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to7:00 p.m. Friday at the Johnston Funeral Home in Conrad. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established. Condolences may be sent to Frances’ family by visiting www.vogelfuneralhomes.com.
Frances was born June 11, 1925 in Perry County, Linden, Tennessee on Short Creek to William Cozy Escar and Pearl (Ledbetter) Tate. She received her elementary and high school education in Linden graduating in 1942. In 1946 she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Middle Tennessee State Teachers College at Murfreesboro with certification to teach elementary, high school and junior college. She taught two years in Perry County prior to her marriage (August 18, 1946) to Lester Everett Hogancamp of Marshalltown, Iowa. They lived in Marshall County, IA from August 1946 until moving to Conrad in January 1950.
Frances taught school in the Conrad area for 36 years. She was a member of the Conrad United Methodist Church where she attended church and Sunday school regularly. She taught Sunday school and Bible school for many years, served on the church board, was a Methodist Youth Fellowship Leader, a charter member of Conrad W.S.C.S. Evening Circle as well as having served on various church committees. She was a member of the National Education Association, Iowa State Education Association, Tennessee Education Association, local teachers association and the Eastern Star.
She will be missed by her son, Randy (Jane) Hogancamp of Cedar Falls, grandchildren, Nathan Hogancamp of Kansas City, KS and Amanda Hogancamp of West Des Moines, one brother-in-law, two sisters-in-law, five nephews and two nieces.
In eternal life, Frances joins her husband, her parents, and her sister Docia “Oville” McGee.
