Barbara Ann Hartsoe, 71 of Gladbrook, entered into eternal life Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at the Mercy Hospice in Johnston, IA. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 18th at the Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook. Entombment will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Riverside Mausoleum in Marshalltown. Public visitation will be held at from 2 pm until 4 pm Sunday at the Goettsch-Perrin Funeral Home in Gladbrook. A memorial fund is being established. Condolences may also be sent to Barbara’s family at www.vogelfuneralhomes.com.
Born on December 19, 1936, near Montour, IA, Barbara was the daughter of Joseph and Gladys (Burke) Murty. She grew up in the area of her birth and graduated from the Tama High School in 1954. She was united in marriage to Jim Hartsoe on January 6, 1956 in Compton, CA. The couple moved back to the Tama/Montour area in 1968 and moved to Gladbrook later that same year. Barbara was employed in the food service department at the hospital in Marshalltown until 1995. Most recently, she and her husband had been the newspaper carriers for the Times Republican in the Gladbrook area.
She will be missed by her husband of 52 years, Jim of Gladbrook; her three daughters: Susan (Tracy) Gienger of Newton, Debra Wilson of Central City and Linda Keller (Mark Koder) of Norwalk; four brothers: Lyle Murty of Waterloo, Dennis Murty of Brooklyn, IA, Joe Murty of Clinton and Lawrence Murty of Tama; two sisters, Beverly Graff of Tama and Shirley Deal of Green Mountain; 8 grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In eternal life, Barbara joins her parents, infant daughter, Connie, sister, Sharon Sterns and brother, Richard Murty, and son-in-law, Dorsey Wilson.
