Allan Schrock, 84, of State Center, died Wednesday, January 30, 2008, at his home. A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2008, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown with Rev. Jeffrey R. Freese officiating. He will be laid to rest at the Bangor Cemetery. Friends may call at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home from 7-9:00 p.m. on Friday. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Allan and his family. Ph 641-844-1234. Allan “Al” Schrock was born in Tama, Iowa, on October 22, 1923, to Omer and Helen (Graff) Schrock. The family moved to Marshalltown shortly thereafter and he was educated in the Marshalltown school system, graduating with the wartime class of 1941. He attended Marshalltown community college before enlisting in the Navy during WWII and served three years. In 1949, he married Gloria Byers who preceded him in death in 1983. He later married Lauralea Dunn and the couple made there home in State Center. Survivors include his wife plus daughters: Cynthia (Mike) Westphal of Albion and Rachel Schrock of Marshalltown. Also surviving are step-children: Paul Dunn and Mark (Annette) Dunn both of State Center, Mrs. Amy (Chris) Gralapp of Lenexa, Kansas, Mrs. Sarah (Ryan) Mueller of Burlington, Massachusetts, and Mrs. Emily (Cory) Damon of Pleasant Hill, California. Also surviving is a brother, Martin (Jeanette) Schrock of Phoenix, Maryland and Aunt Vera Graff of Toledo. Eleven grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews also survive. Schrock was associated with Marshalltown radio stations KFJB and KXIA in various capacities for over forty years. He was the recipient of various broadcasting awards and assumed managership of the stations from 1979 until his retirement in 1986. In 1978, he received the Marshalltown Education Association “Friend of Education” award and later the same year was named Iowa “Friend of Education” by the state association. He was a recipient of the Marshall County Farm Bureau agribusiness award and was a member of the Central Iowa Fair hall of fame. Allan was a lifetime resident of Marshall County. He resided for over thirty years in the Mormon ridge area and for a time was active in saddle clubs and served as one of the first presidents of the Iowa Horse Industry Council. He played keyboard and was associated with a number of dance bands over the years. He enjoyed camping, travel, woodworking and was an ardent St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan. Al was a past member of Lions clubs in Marshalltown and State Center and was a member of the United Methodist Church of State Center and Post 122 American Legion.
