Ed Heng, 89, of 103 Meadow Lane, Marshalltown, died Tuesday, January 15th, at his home while in care of his loving family and the Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 18th, at the Elim Lutheran Church with Pastor Karen Cluts officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Strand Lutheran Cemetery at Dunbar. Friends may call at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home from 4-7:00 p.m. on Thursday. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. A memorial fund is being established. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown is caring for Ed and his family. Ph 641-844-1234. Born Edward O. Heng on October 8th, 1918, he was the eldest of three children born to Albert and Bertha (Driftland) Heng. He was raised in the Gilman/Dunbar area and graduated from the Gilman High School’s Class of 1937. On May 25th, 1941, he was united in marriage to Doris Olson at the Strand Lutheran Church at Dunbar. They farmed in the area and on the family farm for 33 years until retiring. Mr. Heng was a baptized and confirmed member and served on the church council of the Strand Lutheran Church – a congregation that his family had chartered - and later became a member of the Elim Lutheran Church in Marshalltown and was a member of the former Dunbar Square Dance Club. Ed enjoyed fishing, woodworking, helping anyone out, farming, the outdoors, going south for the winter and auctions. He especially treasured his family and will be greatly missed by all of them. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 66 years, Doris, his four children: Charlene (Jim) Hulin of Marshalltown, David (Nancy) Heng of Marshalltown, Jim (Yolanda) Heng of Grinnell and Juli (Gary) Buck of State Center, 19 grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren (and one on the way), his sisters Doris Thompson of Marshalltown and Ruth (Ray) Kunkel of LeGrand as well as nieces, nephews and a host of friends. In death he has rejoined his parents, son-in-law Steve Baer and brother-in-law Harry Thompson.
