TRAGEDY RECALLED

Marshalltown, Jan. 2 – The death of Mrs. Mary E. Clark, of this city at the county hospital recalls a sad tragedy that occurred thirty-two years ago in this city. Mrs. Clark became mentally deranged at that time and in a fit of insanity murdered her three children the bodied of the little ones were found in an outhouse chopped to pieces with an axe. Mrs. Clark recovered her reason after the tragedy and after a number of years seemed to be perfectly rational, but again became deranged and was confined in the Independence asylum for seventeen years, when she was brought to the Marshall County Hospital as an incurable. She inherited quite a large estate when she was a girl.
