Steve, Joseph Rowley is the grandson of my gggg grandfather Joseph X. and Chloe Harvey Buffington. His parents were Joseph Rowley Sr. and Chloe Mary Buffington. The family arrived in Iowa Territory in 1837.

My records indicate Joseph Rowley Sr. d 1827 and Chloe M. Buffington Rowley remarried in 1834 to John Lasley. Another Buffington descendent has Chloe in Virginia in 1845. I have a photo of Chloe.

I am presently trying to link the Buffingtons in and around Marian County to those in Louisa County. Your link makes sense as four sons of Joseph X. seem to have been in Marion County for a special census in 1847 - Abraham C., James Q., Samuel W. and William H.. The only other census citation I have found was for a Joseph Buffington, 23, b. Virginia in 1850, but this Joseph does not seem to key to any of those I have in my database.

Your seem to be correct in that the Buffingtons were not in Marion County long.
