Almost the whole congregation turned out for the ground-breaking ceremonies for the new Assembly of God Church to be located at 1113 Third street. Shown here (at right) is Rev. J.O. Howard about to turn the first spadeful of earth on the site. Following the three members of the building committee (from left), Robert Pitt Sr., of Knoxville, Leonard Langstraat of Bussey and Charles Jordan Jr., of Knoxville, each turned a spadefull. Construction is to start as soon as weather conditions permit. The ceremonies May 14,1951 were preceded by services at the present church.
