I wonder if there is not some error between John Lee and his possible cousin, Josiah Lee.
Josiah Lee was born in 1831 and died on August 4, 1863 at Paducah, Kentucky. He is interred in the Mound City National Cemetery in Mound City, Illinois.
There were four Lee men who enlisted in Company A of the 40th Iowa Infantry. Three supposedly were brothers, Benjamin, William and John. The fourth was probably their cousin, Josiah Lee.
Records show that Benjamin, William and John all survived the war.
