I don't have proof positive, but I believe that your Lewis McKinney was the son of James McKinney and Rachel Carr who married on 28 Oct 1829 in Morgan Co., IN. Rachel was the daughter of Jonathan and Martha Carr who lived in Clark Co., IN in the 1820s, moved to Morgan Co., IN in the late 1820s and from there moved to Des Moines, Iowa and then to Davis Co., Iowa where he died in 1845. Rachel Carr McKinney married her brother-in-law, Peter Huffman, in Marion Co., Iowa in 1855. He was married to Martha Carr 28 Mar 1830 in Morgan Co., IN. She died bet 1853-1855. I'm not sure what happened to James McKinney. I suspect that another child of Rachel and James McKinney was Andrew J. McKinney. Both Lewis and A. J. McKinney were living next door to John Gillaspy in Knoxville, Marion Co., Iowa in the state census of 1854. John Gillaspy married Sarah Carr (a sister to both Rachel and Martha) in 1837 in Morgan Co., IN.
