Bettie Core Wilson died July 15 at her home in Albuquerque, N.M. Born Aug. 3, 1921, in Marion, Ill., but raised in Knoxville, she was "a grand old girl" from pioneer stock. Bettie worked in journalism, for the Red Cross, and was still a substitute teacher at age 83. She loved the written word, Scrabble, her Philosophy group, eagles, tattoos and rocks - she was a Rockhound for decades and had just gone on a hike July 14 with her group.

An AF wife for almost 30 years, Bettie raised her children all over the world, and still loved to travel - just last month she returned from a 17-day trip to Greece. A few years ago she accomplished a lifelong dream when she visited the last of the 50 United States; and in her 70s she drove to Alaska just to add it to her list.

Bettie is survived by her children Gail (Jim) Williams of Aztec, N.M.; Lynn (Vicki), Lewis (Kathy), and Matt (Susan) all of Albuquerque, N.M.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents Paul and Verna (Lawyer) Core of Roswell, N.M.; sister Dorothy Schultz Daniel, and her former husband, Donald E. Wilson.

Cremation has taken place and a funeral took place at the First Unitarian Church in Albuquerque on July 23.
