Agnes LaVone Verheul, age 90 of Prairie City, died Tuesday, August 2, 2005 at Nelson Manor in Newton. Graveside funeral services were held on Saturday, August 6, 2005 at 1:30 p.m.

The daughter of Arie & Jennie (Schippers) Verheul, Agnes was born on September 24, 1914 in Otley, Iowa where her father farmed. Agnes was baptized at the Third Reformed Church in Pella. She started school in Otley, the same year as her brother Harold, even though he was a year older. Agnes moved to Prairie City with her family in 1921. She graduated from Prairie City High School in 1933.

Following high school, she and her brother, Harold both started business classes at Des Moines Four Seasons College, now known as A.I.B. and both graduated together. Agnes then worked for one year as a bookkeeper for Dowden Manufacturing before accepting a position with the Prairie City Feed Mill also as a bookkeeper. She worked there for 22 years. Following her retirement she helped on the family farm. Because of a serious illness, she entered Clearview Manor in Prairie City on October 31, 2001. When Clearview Manor closed both her and her brother moved to Nelson Manor in Newton.

Agnes is survived by cousins and many friends. Preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers, Lewis in infancy and Harold in March of 2005.
