Knoxville Journal September 6, 1917

Emma, wife of Chas. H. Jones, of this city, passed away at her home on Wednesday, August 22, 1917, after nearly three years of suffering from the effects of cancer of the breast.

Mrs. Jones was Emma daughter of Dennis and Elizabeth Stevens, early settlers of Knoxville. The mother Mrs. Elizabeth Stevens, is still living and was with her daughter during practically all of her long, sad sickness.

The late deceased was born in Knoxville December 2, 1857, and had she lived but little more than four short months, would have been 60 years of age. All of her life, except two years in Colorado, was spent in knoxville and it can be truthfully said that the community has never produced one more highly respected.

She was united in marriage with Chas. H. Jones, October 19, 1887. No children were born to that marriage, but she was a good and true mother to her husband's children. Besides her husband who remained by her side with singular devotion during the long months of her suffering, she leaves also her aged mother, Mrs. Elizabeth B. Stevens, two brothers, C.W. Stevens, Los Angeles, Calif., and A.E. Stevens of pleasantville, Ia.,and two sisters, Mrs. Belle Hester Glenwood, Ia., and Mrs. B.G. Auld, of Griswold, Ia. She was a good woman, respected and loved by those who knew her. Through the prolonged period of her affliction unusally patient and considerate of others. She was constantly supported by her faith in God and had in her heart the glad assurance of her acceptance with Him. Mrs. Jones was a member of the Rebekah Lodge. She will be missed in the wide circle of her friends and in her family where she was tenderly beloved.

The funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal church Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with the pastor, Rev. J.P. Robertson, in charge. The Rebekahs directed the obsequies at the grave in Graceland cemetery.
