PELLA - Ruth Waddle, 91, a resident of Mayflower Health Care Center in Grinnell and formerly of Pella, died Monday, May 14, at Grinnell Regional Health Center in Grinnell.
Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella, with Douglas Nicolet speaking. Burial: Dunreath Cemetery near Monroe. Memorials: Bible Truth Publishers. Visiting hours are open today at the funeral home, with family present 6:30-8 p.m.
Ruth Martha Nicolet was born June 19, 1909, in Hardin County in Alden, to Charles U. and Alvine Eloise Sandoz Nicolet. The family lived near Alden until Ruth was 11, then moved to a farm south of Iowa Falls, where she lived until her marriage.
On Jan. 15, 1930, she married Earl Eugene Waddle in Alden. They moved to the home Earl built on his parents' farm southwest of Monroe. They farmed there for nearly 54 years. In 1984 they retired and moved into Pella. Earl died Feb. 4, 1996. Ruth moved to Mayflower Health Care Center in Grinnell in December 1997. She was in Christian fellowship with those gathered at 1812 Washington St., Pella. Her many interests included knitting, sewing, baking and sharing her labor of love with others.
She is survived by three children and spouses: Robert and Margo Waddle of Monroe, Judith and Edward Cowman of Freeport, Ill., and Nancy and Marvin Renaud of Grinnell; a son-in-law, Gerrit Renaud of Pella; 17 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Grace E. Campbell of Iowa Falls.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter, Jean Renaud; her parents; her brothers: Charles, Louis Ulysses, George and Roy Nicolet; and three sisters: Eloise and Daisy Nicolet, and Lillian Brand.
