PELLA - Henry Vande Kieft, 86, of Pella, died Wednesday, May 9, at Knoxville Area Community Hospital.

His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella, the Rev. Isaac W. Meuzelaar officiating. Burial: Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Memorials: West Ridge Manor in Knoxville. Visiting hours at the funeral home begin Saturday evening and continue all day Sunday, with family present 2-4 p.m. Sunday.

Henry (Hendrik) Vande Kieft was born in Marion County near Tracy on Oct. 30, 1914, to John and Johanna Van Haaften Vande Kieft. He was educated in the country grade school near Tracy.

On April 25, 1941, he married Sarah Marie Rempe. They lived on a farm near Tracy until 1958, when they moved into Pella. Henry then became a self-employed truck driver. He transported produce, eggs and most recently potatoes. He drove most recently for Winnebago Industries.

He enjoyed traveling and flying and fishing. For many years, Henry and Sarah edited and published books of thoughts and quotes. On July 12, 1988, Sarah died. Henry moved to Westridge Manor in Knoxville in April 2001. He was a former member of First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa, and Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Pella. At the time of his death he was a charter member of Faith Christian Reformed in Pella.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: John H. and Char Vande Kieft of Prescott, Ariz., Marvin E. and Sharon Van Maanen Vande Kieft of Urbandale; three grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; a brother and sister-in-law: Marion and JoAnn Vande Kieft of Oskaloosa; a sister, Henrietta (the Rev. John) Rooy of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and a brother-in-law, Albert Van Kooten of Oskaloosa.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah; his parents; and a sister, Marie Van Kooten.
