PELLA - Matilda Van Zee, 82, of Pella, died Saturday, May 19, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Reformed Church in Pella. Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Pella. Visiting hours begin 9 a.m. Tuesday at Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella, with family present 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials: Christian Opportunity Center or Back to God Hour.
Matilda Jabaai was born Marcy 4, 1919, in Jasper County, to Neal and Minnie Den Har Tog Jabaai. She had lived 59 years in Pella, and had previously lived in Prairie City and Monroe.
On June 4, 1942, she married Albert A. Van Zee at her parents' home in Prairie City. She was employed in food service at Pella Regional Health Center and with Pella Community Schools. She also had taught at Summit Country School in Marion County. Tillie enjoyed cooking, handwork and sewing banners for her church. In retirement she was a volunteer at Pella Regional Health Center's snack bar.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law: Judy and Jerry Nikkel of Marshalltown, and Lorna and Denny Vos of Jackson, Mich.; four grandsons; four great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law: Leonard and Leona Jabaai of Colfax; and two sisters and brothers-in-law: Berdine and John Breed of Monroe, and Esther and Bob Aalbers of Altoona.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on May 20, 1995; and a brother, Marvin Jabaai.
