PELLA - Dorothy Van Niewaal, 72, of Pella, died Saturday, July 21, at Pella Regional Health Center.

Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Pella, Pastor John McNabb officiating. Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Pella. Visiting hours at Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella are open today, with family present 6:30-8 p.m. Memorials: First Baptist Church, Pella.

Dorothy Van Niewaal was born Jan. 5, 1929, in Pella to Leendert and Gerretje Sels Schakel. She was a factory worker for Pella Corp., and retired in 1989.

On Aug. 21, 1949, she married Clarence "Dreke" Van Niewaal. He preceded her in death. She lived all her life in Pella. She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Original Bowlers League, Early Risers Bowling League and Pella Women's Bowling Association.

She loved bowling and had served as secretary and vice president of Pella Women's Bowling Association.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Calvin and Linda Van Niewaal of Cedar Rapids; a daughter and son-in-law: Bernice and Jerry Sagrillo of Las Vegas, Nev.; two grandchildren: Jonathan and Sarah Van Niewaal of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Kenneth Schakel of Gresham, Ore.; and a sister, Charlotta Baumann of Pella.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Aug. 5, 1995; a brother, Wilfred Schakel; and a sister, Charlene Schakel.
