PELLA - Roy Steadham, 81, of Pella and formerly of Oskaloosa, died Saturday, July 28, at Pella Regional Health Center.
His funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, the Rev. Burliss Parker of the Open Bible Church in Pella officiating. Burial: Evergreen Cemetery in Leighton, with military rites by Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W. Visiting hours with the family are 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral chapel. A memorial fund has been established in his name.
Roy Steadham was born Feb. 8, 1920, in Graham, Texas to Edward C. and Sara Dollins Steadham.
He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. On July 27, 1943, he married Rowena Manges in Wichita Falls, Texas. Following his discharge from the military, they lived in Oskaloosa for a time before moving back to Texas. He worked in oil fields and then did carpentry.
In 1961 they moved to Pella and he worked in construction for the old Roth and Associates for many years. Later he worked at Glenwood State School for 15 years, retiring in 1982. They moved back to the area and settled in Pella in 1991. He loved to work with wood. He made grandfather clocks and repaired old clocks.
He is survived by his wife, Rowena, of Pella; two sons and a daughter-in-law: Roy L. Steadham of Hobbs, N.M., and Ben and Patsy Steadham of Pella; a daughter, Ramona Steadham of Pella; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law; six sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers, including his twin brother Coy.
