PELLA - Ethel M. in't Veld, 89, of Pella, died Saturday at Pella Regional Health Center in Pella.
Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Second Reformed Church in Pella, the Revs. Steve and Sophie Mathonnet-Vander Well officiating. Burial: Oakwood Cemetery in Pella. Memorials: Scholte House Restoration or Second Reformed Church in Pella. Visiting hours are open today at Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella, with family present 6:30-8 p.m.
Ethel Mae Ahrweiler was born May 18, 1912, in Oskaloosa, to Henry and Maggie Gegner Ahrweiler. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School and attended William Penn College in Oskaloosa for a year.
On Oct. 18, 1931, she married Klaas in't Veld. They lived all their married life in Pella. Ethel had worked in the Coffee Shop and then helped her husband operate in't Veld's Meat Market until he sold the business.
For more than 30 years they spent winters in Texas until they sold their home there in 1994. Ethel was a good cook. Following their retirement she enjoyed playing bridge and golf. She moved to the Long Term Care Unit of Pella Regional Health Center in the 1990s. She was a member of Second Reformed Church in Pella.
She is survived by her husband, Klaas, of Pella Manor; two daughters and sons-in-law: Dody and Carl Boat of Pella, and Sally and Denny Rust of Georgetown, Texas; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister and brother-in-law: Ella (Babe) and Clarence Fowler.
