KIRKVILLE - James E. Hopwood, 56, of Kirkville, died Sunday, Aug. 26, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines as a result of a motorcycle accident on Aug. 18 near Fremont.
His funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa, the Rev. Jack Jackson officiating. Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Pella. Visiting hours are open today at the funeral home, with family present 6-8 p.m. today. Memorials may be made to the family.
James Hopwood was born Aug. 5, 1945, in Washington, D.C., to James Clayton and Ann Marie Sullivan Hopwood.
He married Marilyn Goemaat on Dec. 20, 1991. He was previously married to Christina Mooney. He had lived in Kirkville since 1993. He was employed by John Deere Ottumwa Works for 30 years, retiring in 1997.
He had served with the Iowa Army National Guard, and was presently a city councilman in Kirkville. He was a member of U.A.W. Local No. 74 and had been involved in stock car racing.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters: Tammy L. Hopwood of Ottumwa and Jody L. Gott of Oskaloosa; three sons: James A. Hopwood of Ottumwa, Jason L. Blommers of Leighton and Joseph D. Blommers of Kirkville; eight grandchildren; his mother, Ann Marie Hopwood of Ottumwa; a sister, Joann Shadley of Newton; and four brothers: Charles M. Hopwood, Tim Hopwood and Dennis A. Hopwood, all of Bloomfield, and John David Hopwood of Floris.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Gary Hopwood.
