PELLA - Mary Elizabeth Gosselink, 88, of Pella, died Saturday, May 19, at Pella Regional Health Center.
Her funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Third Reformed Church in Pella, the Rev. Donald Orange officiating. Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Pella. Memorials: Third Reformed Church. Visiting hours begin 2 p.m. today at Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella, with family present 7-8:30 p.m. today. The family invites friends and relatives to return to Third Reformed Church following the committal service.
Ethel Elizabeth Van Zante was born Feb. 18, 1913, at her family's farm home south of Pella to William T. and Julia Angelena Grandia Van Zante. She attended North Potterville Country Grade School and graduated from Pella Public High School in 1930. She taught at various country grade schools for five years.
On Marcy 10, 1936, she married Raymond Bogaard Gosselink near Pella. They farmed northeast of Pella until January 1962, when they moved into Pella. Ethel worked at Pella Community Hospital with her sister, Gladys Van Dyk, in the sterile supplies unit. On May 14, 1983, Raymond died. Ethel eventually moved to Fairhaven West.
She spent many hours with friends and made weekly visits to her sister-in-law, Clara Mae Gosselink, in Pella Regional Health Center's Long Term Care Unit. She was a member of Third Reformed Church in Pella, where she taught Sunday school and joined the Mary and Martha Society. She enjoyed playing piano, gardening, and sewing and quilting.
She is survived by four children and spouses: Eugene and Sandra Gosselink of Cincinnati, Ohio, Donald and Deurse Gosselink of White Bear Lake, Minn., Mary De Jong of Altoona, Pa., and Carol Gosselink of Greeley, Colo.; five grandchildren; a sister: Freda (Robert) Hoeksema, a brother and sister-in-law: Lloyd and Nettie Van Zante, and a brother-in-law, Marion De Vries, all of Pella.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a brother, Arthur William Van Zante who died in infancy; and two sisters: Clara (Hubert) Thorson and Gladys A. (Van Dyk) De Vries.
