PELLA - Kathleen Ann Dykstra, 77, of Pella, died Wednesday, July 18, at her home in Pella.
Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Church in Oskaloosa, the Rev. Al Sherbo officiating. Burial: Forest Cemetery, Oskaloosa. Visiting hours are open today at Bates Funeral Chapel, with family present 6-8 p.m. today. Memorials: Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association.
Kathleen Ann Dykstra was born March 13, 1924, in West Des Moines, to Stanley and Mary Sherbo Sarnecki. For 17 years, including during World War II, she was a welder at the old Solar Aircraft Co. in Des Moines.
On May 10, 1953, she married Virgil G. Dykstra in Des Moines. Later they owned and operated the Equitable Cigar & Pipe Store in the Equitable Building in Des Moines for 12 years. They moved to Pella in 1973, and she was employed as a coordinator at Rolscreen Co. (now Pella Corp.) for 15 years before retiring.
She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Pella, and was a volunteer with the church's Works of Our Hands program. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels.
She is survived by her husband, Virgil G. Dykstra of Pella; two sisters-in-law: Erma Sarnecki of West Des Moines and Pearl Sarnecki of Prescott; and relatives-in-law Merle, Vernon and Marion (and Ruth) Dykstra, all of Bussey, and Esther Kempenaar of Beacon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers: Carl and Paul Sarnecki.
