HAMILTON - Marceau Des Planques, 98, of Hamilton, died Friday, June 29, at Knoxville Area Community Hospital.

His funeral service was held this morning, July 2, at Hamilton Methodist Church in Hamilton, the Rev. Samuel Subramanian officiating. Burial: Hamilton Cemetery, Hamilton. Gilbert-Nordstrom Funeral Home in Lovilia is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to Hamilton Methodist Church.

Marceau Des Planques was born May 18, 1903, in Bruay, France, to Inisnet and Matilda Des Planques.

He married Hortense Piquay on June 3, 1922, in Oskaloosa. She died Feb. 13, 1971. He was a coal miner in Marion County and the state of Wyoming. He was a member of Hamilton Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge in Bussey.

He is survived by two sons: Marceau Des Planques Jr. of Hamilton and Donald Des Planques of Johnston; two daughters: Isabelle Lapsey of Davenport and Alice Dicks of Des Moines; 23 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Sammy Des Planques of Fair Oaks, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter, Yonnie Mefford; three brothers: Inisnet, Walter and Claybert; and a sister, Matilda.
