CARROLL - Julie A. Uitermarkt, 42, of New Hope Village in Carroll, died Saturday, Sept. 22, at the home of her sister, Vickie Janssen in Des Moines.
Her funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Reformed Church in Pella, the Rev. Patrick Blackwell officiating. Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Pella. Memorials: New Hope Village or New Hope Village Sign Choir in Carroll. Visiting hours at Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella are open today, with family present 6:30-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Julie Ann Uitermarkt was born Sept. 11, 1959, in Oskaloosa to Le Roy and Nancy Ann Ter Louw Uitermarkt. She was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. She lived on a farm with her parents near Pella. They moved to Des Moines so she would attend Smouse School. She completed grade school there, then attended University of Iowa Hospitals Schools in Iowa City and completed eighth grade.
At age 18, she moved to New Hope Village Cottages in Carroll. She lived there the rest of her life. She was in the activity program, doing clerical and small piece assembly work and lived independently while receiving services. She enjoyed signing and singing with the New Hope Village Choir. She enjoyed ceramics and collecting Precious Moments figurines. She attended the Presbyterian Church in Carroll.
She is survived by her father and stepmother, Le Roy and Billie Smith Uitermarkt of West Des Moines; her mother and stepfather, Nancy and Mark McCaune of Des Moines; her sister Vickie Lynn Janssen of Des Moines; two nieces, Anna and Angel; her maternal grandmother, Leona Hiemstra Ter Louw of Pella; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends; and a special friend, her caregiver Nicki Holmes.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, John E. Ter Louw; and paternal grandparents Gerrit and Marie Molenaar Uitermarkt.
