EDDYVILLE - Frances Sheffer, 66, a resident of Oakwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Albia and formerly of Eddyville and Oskaloosa, died Friday, Sept. 7, at the care center.

Her funeral service was held Sept. 10 at Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, the Rev. Gary McDonough officiating. Burial: Old White Cemetery, Oskaloosa. Memorials: Hospice of Monroe County.

Frances Sheffer was born Dec. 5, 1934, in Knoxville to Ralph and Florence Hellen Curtis Shappell.

On Feb. 27, 1955, she married Marion Breuklander in Marion County; they later divorced. She married Lewis Earl Sheffer on Nov. 18, 1967, in Mahaska County. He died July 12, 1974. She was a homemaker, and worked at the old Canteen in Oskaloosa for many years.

She is survived by four brothers: Leland Shappell of Santa Ana, Calif., William Shappell of Knoxville, Lloyd Shappell of Oskaloosa and Donald Shappell of Des Moines; three sisters: Florence Lavern Mahon and Joann Hanna, both of Oskaloosa, and Betty McBride of Stratford, Conn.; a close companion, Marvin Olivier of Eddyville; and her caregivers: Donna Sheets and Lori Kool.
