BUSSEY - Dorothy V. Smith, 83, of Knoxville and formerly of Bussey, died Friday, Dec. 13, at Knoxville Area Community Hospital.

Her funeral service was held this morning, Dec. 16, at the United Methodist Church in Bussey, the Rev. Jill Leveck officiating. Burial: Greenlawn Cemetery, Bussey. Gilbert-Boman Funeral Homes handled the arrangements. Memorials: Bussey United Methodist Church and Greenlawn Cemetery.

Dorothy V. Smith was born Oct. 7, 1919, in Oskaloosa to Leonard and Gertrude Parker Vander Horst. She graduated from Bussey High School in 1937.

She married Charles Mattise in 1940. He died in 1960. She married Wayne Smith in 1961; he also precedes her in death.

She was a homemaker, and operated Bussey Restaurant with Irene Vandersluis for several years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Bussey, United Methodist Women and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Gene and Dee Mattise of Pleasant Hill; a stepson and wife: David and Sandra Smith of Bussey; a daughter and son-in-law: Judy and Bob Strike of Marshalltown; a stepdaughter-in-law, Jean Smith of Norwalk; three grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; a stepson, Dennis Smith; and three sisters: Velma VanderHorst, Viola Davis and Crystal Moon.
