PELLA - Earl Grandia, 87, of Pella, died Saturday, Oct. 19, at Inn Care of Pella Regional Health Center.

His funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Reformed Church in Pella. Burial: Oakwood Cemetery in Pella with military honors. Memorials: Organ Renovation Fund of First Reformed Church in Pella. Visiting hours are until 4 p.m. today at Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella, and 6:30-8 p.m. today with the family at First Reformed Church in Pella.

Earl Luther Grandia was born Aug. 13, 1915, on the family farm near Leighton to Jacob A. and Katie Boland Grandia. He attended Pella Public High School and graduated from Central College in Pella in 1937; he majored in mathematics and was a member of the A Capella Choir.

On Dec. 20, 1939, he married Angelene Van Waardhuizen at the First Reformed Church in Pella.

He was inducted into the United States Army in April 1944, and served with the 737th Railway Operating Battalion during World War II; he was discharged in April 1946.

Earl was associated with White Way Auto Co. in Pella for 39 years. He was an accountant, and retired as part-owner in 1972.

He was a member of Pella Noon Kiwanis, and was secretary for many years. He was a lifelong member of First Reformed Church in Pella, served on the consistory for many years, and was on the Shepherd Ministry Team.

He and "Ang" enjoyed traveling and camping, and were charter members of the Good Sam's Champing Club. He was a member of the Central Club, where he enjoyed sports and golfing. He was a member of Van Veen-Van Hemert American Legion Post No. 89 of Pella. He enjoyed woodworking and gospel music.

He is survived by his wife, Angelene; their two daughters and sons-in-law: Judy and James Marvel of Tucson, Ariz., and Janice and Richard Vander Leest of Russellville, Ark.; and five grandchildren: Jacob G. Marvel of Amsterdam, N.Y., Jana Marvel of Tokyo, Japan, Judson Marvel of Princeton, N.J., Erin Vander Leest of Austin, Texas and Christopher Vander Leest of Clarksville, Ark.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Lois Roppel.
