ENGLE, VAN EE, VAN WILLIGEN

SANTA MONICA, Calif. - Harriette W. Engle, 81, of Santa Monica, Calif., and formerly of Oskaloosa and Pella, died Sunday, May 12, at the Santa Monica Health Care Center following a recent stroke.

Her graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Oakwood Cemetery in Pella, the Rev. Andy Kamphuis officiating. Friends may call an hour before the service at Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella.

Harriette Wilma Van Ee was born April 24, 1921, in Pella to John and Gertrude Van Willigen Van Ee. She was educated in Pella schools. She then worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Roy Gillett in Oskaloosa.

In 1941, she moved to Santa Monica, Calif., where she continued working as a dental assistant. Harriette continued living in Santa Monica the rest of her life, and retired as a records clerk from St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica, where she had worked for 25 years. She loved rainy, foggy weather and enjoyed gardening.

She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Morrison of Alameda, Calif.; a sister and brother-in-law: Esther and Robert Shaffer of Mount Pleasant; and a stepsister, Betty Karstens of What Cheer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, James Rempe; her stepmother, Irene Van Ee; two sisters: Bernice and Arlene M. Van Ee; a brother, John Van Ee Jr.; and two stepsisters: Dorothy Little and Catherine Shepherd.
