PELLA - Henry M. Bandstra, 78, of Pella, died Monday, Oct. 14, at his home. His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Pella, the Rev. John Gorter officiating. Burial: Evergreen Cemetery near Leighton. Memorials: Hospice of Pella Comfort House or Pella Christian Grade School. Visiting hours begin this evening and continue until 3 p.m. Thursday at Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella. The family will greet visitors 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Henry Marvin Bandstra was born Aug. 23, 1924, near Leighton to Bart and Mary Van De Voort Bandstra. Hank was educated at West Weaver Country Grade School near Oskaloosa, and graduated from eighth grade.

He married Luella Marie Vos on Feb. 25, 1948, at Second Christian Reformed Church in Pella. They rented a home near Leighton from his parents and ran a dairy farm until 1968.

In 1969 they moved to Otley, where he worked for a time at the Otley Cooperative Exchange and also sold fertilizer for Standard Oil; that year he also began selling grain bins. This became a full-time business and, eventually, Bandstra Supply Ltd. He and Luella worked in the business together; his health failed and he was forced to retire a few years ago.

He enjoyed coffee with his many friends. He was a former member of Leighton Christian Reformed Church, and was a member of Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Pella and sang in the church choir.

He is survived by his wife, Luella; two sons and a daughter-in-law: Bryce H. Bandstra of Chicago, Ill., and Bryan L. and Becky Ann Brouwer Bandstra of Pella; six grandchildren; a great-grandson; four sisters, a brother and spouses: Dorothy (William) Zuidema, Wilma C. and Richard Vos, Kathryn and Robert Vroom, John A. and Joan Bandstra, all of Pella, and Bernice and Herman Kredit of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters-in-law, Beulah (Paul E.) Bandstra of Pella and Marie (John M.) Vos of Pella; his wife's sisters: Margaret (Vos) Van Ee of Pella, Claziena (Vos) Terpstra and husband Gerard of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and special friends Gerrit B. and Chris Steenhoek of Pella and Ed and Lenabel Shappel of Gilbert, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by a stillborn daughter, Ruth Aileen; his parents; three sisters: Gertrude Bandstra, Ada H. Spoelstra and Mary J. Bandstra; and a brother, Paul E. Bandstra.
