Delilah Elizabeth Viers was born to James and Elizabeth Viers, Jan. 18, 1847, near Akron, Ohio, and died Oct. 27, 1939, near Hartford, Iowa.
She came with her parents as one of the early pioneers to Swan township in 1849. Most of her life had been spent at Swan and in the Hartford community.
On July 16, 1865, she was united in marriage to Richmond S. Bowers. To this union were born nine children, five sons and four daughters. Also in this family were four step-children.
Her husband, five children and four step-children have preceded her in death.
She leaves in passing one sister, Mrs. Angeline Ackley, of Oregon; a brother, Milo Viers of St. Louis; four children – Mrs. Bessie Jacobs, Platte, S.D.; Harry Bowers, Swan, Mrs. Roy Adams, Wagner, S.D., and Loren Bowers, Sandyville, Iowa; 27 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. W. R. Tuttle in the Christian church at Swan. Interment was in the Swan cemetery.
