Marie J. Veldhuizen, 83, of Oskaloosa passed away Sunday morning, Sept. 22, 2002 at Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa.

Funeral Services were held on September 25, at 10:30 at the Central United Methodist Church with Pastor Bob Dean officiating. A Family Prayer Service will precede the funeral in the church chapel at 10:15 a.m. Cremation will follow the service with a private family burial Thursday morning at Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.

Visitation will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 24 after 9:00 a.m. at the Garland-VanArkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will be present from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. to greet visitors. Memorials may be made to Mahaska Hospice.

Marie Johanna Veldhuizen, daughter of John & Gertie Branderhorst DeBoef, was born November 21, 1918 southwest of Beacon, Iowa. She attended the Brush Creek School west of Oskaloosa.

Marie worked at the Pella Rolscreen factory where she met Roy Roorda; the married in 1938 at the family farm southeast of Oskaloosa. They lived in Pella and Des Moines.

Roy passed away in 1974. In 1975 Marie met Dale Veldhuizen of Oskaloosa; on May 30, 1975 they were married at the Central United Methodist Church.

Marie's memory is honored by her husband, Dale of Oskaloosa; Five children and their spouses: Alton Roorda of Destin, FL; and John & Barbara Roorda of Holualoa, HI; Linda and Frank Brown of West Des Moines; and Sharyn Mayr of Springfield, MO; and Pam & Stephen Lanning of Kansas City, MO. She was blessed with 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren. She is survived by two brothers, Arthur De Boef of New Sharon and William De Boef of Pella and many nieces and nephews.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, Roy Roorda and a grandson, Scott Perdue.
