Funeral services for Phyllis E. Vander Zyl, 63, of Pella were held July 22, 2002 in the Estate Room of the Long Term Care Unit at the Pella Regional Health Center in Pella, the Rev. Kenneth A. Dykstra officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Barb Nunnikhoven, accompanist. Honorary bearer was Guitta Graber.

Graveside services were held July 22, 2002 at 4 p.m. at the Graceland Cemetery in Pella.

On November 11, 1938 Phyllis Elaine Vander Zyl was born in Pella, Iowa. She was the first of three children that were born to Floyd and Louesa Baarda Vander Zyl, her siblings were Eunice Lynn and Eldon Lee. Phyllis lived her entire lifetime in Pella where she lived with her congenital limitations.

She had worked at the Christian Opportunity Center for a time and for the past 15 years had been a resident in the Long Term Care Unit at the Pella Regional Health Center.

On Saturday morning, July 20, 2002 Phyllis passed away at the age of 63 years, eight months and nine days.

Phyllis was a confessing member of the First Reformed Church in Pella. She enjoyed people, television game shows, jigsaw puzzles, singing hymns, co=loring, dogs and dolls.

She is survived by her mother, Louesa Vander Zyl, a resident at Fairhaven East in Pella; her sister, Eunice L. and her husband, James Van Tuyl of Des Moines; her brother, Eldon L. (Tony) Vander Zyl and his wife, Cindy of Ames; and two nephews: Matthew A. and Mark A. Vander Zyl.

She was preceded in death by her father, Floyd Vander Zyl, who passed away on December 17, 1993.

Arrangements were handled by Van Dyk - Duven Funeral Home in Pella.

Memorials may be made to the Long Term Care Unit at the Pella Regional Health Care Center in Pella.
