Memorial service for Alfred E. Renaud, 82, of Pella was held October 25, 2002 at the First Baptist Church in Pella, the Rev. John R. McNabb officiated. Music was provided by Mrs. Barb Nunnikhoven, pianist and Spencer Ver Meer, soloist.

Interment was at t'Lam Cemetery in Marion County, Iowa.

Alfred Earl Renaud was born on February 8, 1910 a cesarean baby in Des Moines, Iowa. He was the first of two children born to Edmund J. and Bessie Lundy Renaud, his sibling a sister, Jean Cornelia. Alfred attended the Webster Grade School and graduated from Pella High School in Pella with the class of 1938. During high school, he worked in the locker plant for the Farmers Union Cooperative.

On June 13, 1941he was united in marriage with Dorothy Julene Klyn whom he met in school. To this union one son was born, James Paul Renaud on, July 29, 1942. Following their marriage, he was employed for Allied Mills in Spencer, Iowa. "Alf" , as he was known, was then self-employed most of his 50 working years.

He operated Pella Poultry Service and then organized Renaud's Farm Service which eventually became Renaud's Farm and Garden. He retired in 1982 at which time he sold his partnership to his brother-in-law, Paul Klyn, when it became known as Paul's Lawn and Garden. "Alf" and Dorothy enjoyed their retirement reading, collecting antiques and traveling. For 20 years they spent their winters in Arizona of which eight years they lived there fulltime. "Alf” was president of Palm Gardens in Mesa, Ariz. during this time. In 1999 they returned to Pella where they continued to live the remainder of their married life. Alfred belonged to the Pella Historical Society.

He was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Pella. Alfred was baptized there in 1938, served as the Sunday School Superintendent and on the Board of Trustees.

On Monday afternoon, October 21, 2002 Alfred passed away at the Pella Regional Health Center in Pella where he was being cared for due to lymphoma.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy J. Renaud of Pella; their son, James P. Renaud and his wife, Jean Margaret of Tempe, Ariz.; his sister Jean C. and her husband, Richard Mollard of Green Valley, Ariz.; and two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Ruth (Klyn) and Willard Ver Meer, Paul and Joan (Gosselink) Klyn of Pella.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Edmund and Bessie Renaud.

Arrangements were handled by Van Dyk - Duven Funeral Home in Pella.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Pella Comfort House.
