Funeral services for Martha Elaine Rankin, 45, of Pleasantville, who died Saturday, July 6, 2002 near North English, were held Wednesday, July 10, at First United Methodist Church in Knoxville. Rev. Peter J. Peterson officiated at the services.

Interment was at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville. Casketbearers were Larry DeJong, Ned Fee, Owen Golay, Joe Klootwyk and Bill, Karl, Pete and Richard Rozendaal.

Martha was born on May 5, 1957 in Prairie City, the daughter of Wilbur and Elinor (Hunziker) Rozendaal. She graduated from Sully High School in 1976. After high school, she helped her sister Mary as a nanny before going to work for Hawkeye Health Care and later as private duty care nurse. She also worked as a substitute school bus driver for Pleasantville School.

On July 31, 1987 she married Larry Rankin at the First Reformed Church in Knoxville. In 1990 Martha went to work full time for the Knoxville Schools as a driver.

Martha raised Sheltie dogs. She and Larry were very active in the Lynnville Saddle Club and loved riding horses. The couple also enjoyed camping. Above all else, Martha was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a member of the Lynnville Saddle Club.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth Stoddard and her grandparents. She is survived by her husband, Larry; two daughters, Lora Anderson of Knoxville and Michelle Pennington of Pleasantville; two sons, Eric Rankin of Mason City and Lonnie Rankin of Chariton; her parents, Wilbur and Elinor Rozendaal of Sully; six grandchildren; four brothers, Pete, Richard and Karl Rozendaal all of Pella and Bill Rozendaal of Grinnell; four sisters, Jane Van Wyk of Pella, Mary Heron of Kansas City, Mo., Ellen Rozendaal of Sully and Ruth Van Roekel of Des Moines as well as many other family members and friends.

Memorials may be made to the Lynnville Saddle Club.

Arrangements were made by Bybee & Davis Funeral Home.
