From The Farmington (NM)Daily Times, July 21, 2005:
ALBUQUERQUE
Bettie Core Wilson
Aug. 3, 1921 - July 15, 2005
Bettie Core Wilson, passed away suddenly, Friday, July 15, 2005, at her home in Albuquerque. Born in Marion, Ill., but raised in Knoxville, Iowa, she was “a grand old girl.” Bettie epitomized the Greatest Generation and could have been the poster girl for pioneer stock. She had a journalism degree, worked in newspapers in her younger years, and had a lifelong love for words, education, and Scrabble. At age 83, she was still a substitute teacher.
She was an Air Force wife for almost 30 years, and raised her children all over the world. Bettie LOVED travel and just returned from a 17-day trip to Greece. She also loved rock hounding, the Friendly Philosophers, creative cooking, politics, learning about everything, eagles, tattoos and all her many friends and family.
She is survived by her children Gail (Jim) Williams of Aztec, and Lynn (Vicki), Lewis (Kathy), and Matt (Susan) of Albuquerque; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. They will always remember the smart, funny, kind, thoughtful, sharp-witted, intelligent, caring and wonderful woman she was to the very end. She was simply irreplaceable, and we will hold her gently in our hearts forever.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 23, at First Unitarian Church, 3701 Carlisle NE (at Comanche) in Albuquerque.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the New Mexico Zoological Society of Albuquerque or a charity of your choice.
Arrangements are with Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors, 3113 Carlisle Blvd. in Albuquerque, (505) 884-1188.
