Funeral services for Edward Boender, 70, of Mason City, who died Jan. 12, were held Jan. 16 at Rolling Acres Christian Reformed Church. Rev. Jack Vanden Huevel officiated the ceremony.

Interment was at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Ed was born March 21, 1933 to William and Christine Boender. He graduated with honors from Oskaloosa High School and married Marilyn Kelderman on April 25, 1952.

He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. In 1961, he and his family moved to Mason City to accept a position at Pioneer Federal Savings and Loan and led it through many years of growth, including five mergers.

He was treasurer of the Mason City YMCA, president of Kiwanis Club, Junior Achievement and Mason City Development Association. He served on the boards of United Way, Handicap Village ad NIACC. Ed was one of the founders of Rolling Acres Christian Reformed Church and the Mason City Bus Line. He also served as president of the Iowa Savings and Loan League and organized a computer trust board.

Ed is survived by his children, Patricia Guetzko and husband, Dave, Mike Boender and wife, Donna John Boender, Carol Boender; grandchildren, siblings, John Boender and wife Edna, Kay Bruxvoort and husband, Herman, Mert Van Enigenberg and husband, Bud, Cornie Boender and wife, Bynie.

Ed was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marilyn; sisters, Nellie Stouwie, Helen Bruxvoort and Wilma Veldhuizen; and a brother, Sam Boender.

Memorials may be given to the Rolling Acres Christian Reformed Church or Opportunity Village, P.O. Box V, Clear Lake, IA 50428.

Major Erickson Funeral Home & Crematory took care of the arrangements.
