Funeral services for Cynthia Carter, 69, of Pella were held November 23 at the Garden Chapel in Pella, with President Cordell Burton officiating, Brett Call-opening prayer and Ed Wade-eulogy. Music was provided by Nora DeReus, organist and special music was "Love One Another."

Interment was at the Coal Ridge Cemetery southwest of Pella. Casket bearers were Elder Fisher, Elder Herr, Elder Pearson, Elder Collard, Andrew Clemence, Ed Wade and Jacob Owens.

Cynthia Margaret Payne, the daughter of George Henry Payne and Kate Gertrude (Wilson) Payne, was born June 28, 1933 in Grimsby, England.

After high school, Cynthia attended secretarial business school. She worked for Stanley Tools in England. Cynthia was united in marriage with Leslie Carter at the Tankersly Methodist Church in Yorkshire, England on March 31, 1956.

She enjoyed knitting, baking bread, canning food and traveling. On her birthday, June 28, 1976, Cynthia moved to the United States.

She lived in Missouri and Arizona before settling in Pella in 1982. Cynthia was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Leslie passed away on August 19, 1991. Cynthia passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2002 at the Pella Regional Health Center at the age of 69 years, four months and 22 days.

She is survived by her children: Mark Carter of Pella and Melanie Carter of Lamoni; seven grandchildren; a brother, Malcolm Payne of Port Carling, Ontario, Canada; and a sister, Clare Young of Davis, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents: George and Kate Payne; her husband: Leslie Carter, and an infant son, Dean Russell Carter.

Arrangements were handled by Garden Chapel in Pella.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Pella, American Red Cross or the Arthritis Foundation.
