Funeral services for Mrs. Ada VanRheenen, 83, of Mendota, Illinois were held December 24 at the First Presbyterian Church in Mendota, the Rev. Dale Dykstra officiated. Music was provided by Barb Christopher, organist. Casket bearers were Arvin VanRheenen, Randy VanRheenen, Darl VanRheenen, Kenny VanRheenen, Jim Sweany and Sean Patrick Sweany. Cremation rites followed the funeral service.

Ada VanRheenen was born December 12, 1919 in Pella, Iowa to Arie and Johanna Vander Linden VanSteenis.

On October 23, 1941, she married Clifford VanRheenen in Pella.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mendota and a member of King's Daughters & Presbyterian Women's Association. Ada was a volunteer at Mendota Community Hospital.

She passed away at her home in Mendota on December 22, 2002.

She is survived by her husband, Clifford of Mendota; a daughter, Ferne (Jim) Sweany of Chicago; her sons: Kenny (Kim) of Mendota, Randy (Lucy) of Ottawa, Arvin (Mary) of Elmore City, Okla., and Darl (Barbara) of Amana, Iowa; 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Bernice (Dr. Abron) Grandia of Alton, IlI.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Verna Rouw, and a brother, Ervin VanSteenis.

Arrangements were handled by Merritt Funeral Homes in Mendota, Illinois.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Mendota.
